Highland Mayor Pro Tem Larry McCallon Welcomes Metrolink Riders as Guest Train Conductor

Friday May 24, 2019

LOS ANGELES –City of Highland Mayor Pro Tem and Metrolink Board 2nd Vice-Chair Larry McCallon is now being heard on board Metrolink San Bernardino Line trains as a guest train conductor.

McCallon’s recorded voice welcomes passengers on board Metrolink trains and announces San Bernardino Line station stops.

“It’s a pleasure to communicate directly with Metrolink riders as a guest conductor because a lot of them have been with us for many years and rely on our service to get to work and home again,” McCallon said. “Choosing Metrolink instead of driving a car helps to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, which affects each one of us. Our riders should feel appreciated for making that choice.”

McCallon is a long-time public servant in San Bernardino County having been first elected to the Highland City Council in 2002 and is the past chair of the Metrolink Board of Directors. McCallon is also past president of the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) and of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). He also serves on the Governing Board of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD).

“I’m so pleased that Director McCallon is a guest train conductor as this is a natural extension of his commitment to public service,” said Metrolink CEO Stephanie Wiggins. “Director McCallon has been instrumental in helping to grow the San Bernardino Line, which is consistently one of our best performing routes.”

Since July 2018, the San Bernardino Line has had nearly two million tickets sold, making it the system’s most popular line.

The Metrolink Guest Train Conductor Program is part of the railroad’s ongoing efforts to better engage with riders on the system.

McCallon served in the United States Air Force for 21 years and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal during the Vietnam War. McCallon is a retired businessman with 18 years’ experience as president and CEO of McFam Corporation.
