Today, the Board of Directors of the Southern California Regional Rail Authority named Darren Kettle chief executive officer (CEO) of Metrolink. Kettle is currently the executive director of the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC), one of the five regional transportation agencies that comprise the joint powers authority that governs Metrolink.

Today, Metrolink announced the launch of a Small Business Partnership Program (SBPP), an innovative initiative that helps Southern California’s local small businesses bid more competitively and equitably on the agency’s contracts.

On Monday, July 5, Metrolink will operate on a Sunday schedule in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Metrolink will operate a regular weekend schedule on Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4. Metrolink station arrivals and departures can be seen at metrolinktrains.com/schedules.

In a partnership with Friends of the Children-Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition and Metrolink, children in foster care and their parents from Palmdale enjoyed an afternoon of touring along historic locations in Newhall.

Today, Metrolink launched a multi-faceted advertising and public safety campaign appealing to pedestrians and motorists to stay safe around tracks and crossings. At the center of the multichannel campaign is an emotional video series that depicts real-life, potentially tragic results of unsafe behaviors that occur every day around the region’s railroad tracks.

Just in time for summer, and for the first time in its history, Metrolink will launch a new Saturday service on its Ventura County Line beginning Saturday, May 29—Memorial Day weekend. The new Saturday service connects Ventura County residents in Moorpark and Simi Valley through the San Fernando Valley stations at Chatsworth, Northridge, Van Nuys, Burbank Airport and Burbank Downtown and Glendale with Los Angeles Union Station. The service was made possible from funding provided by the Ventura County Transportation Commission and Metro.

Metrolink invites Southern California residents to take a summer adventure with new weekend service on its Ventura County Line, and a new series of family-friendly summer vacation itineraries that riders can explore as they discover all Southern California has to offer. Metrolink is gearing up for a busy Bike Month this year beginning by offering free travel during “Bike to Work Week” May 17-21 for those who board with bicycles on Metrolink’s bike-friendly passenger trains. The month-long festivities will also include an Aventon e-bike giveaway, the launch of rail-friendly bike excursions specially curated by AllTrails, and a bike safety webinar with the Los Angeles County Bike Coalition (LACBC).

Metrolink is seeking public input on several schedule adjustments that were enacted in March 2020, necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, as part of Title VI requirements. Last year, the regional passenger railroad enacted a 30 percent schedule reduction due to lower demand following stay-at-home orders.

Metrolink will officially recognize the Herculean efforts of our Southern California region’s essential workers by celebrating Essential Worker Day, an annual recognition to take place on April 28, a day historically celebrated as National Superhero Day. The agency will invite all riders to thank essential workers on that day.
